TfL Shanghai Map
TfL style Shanghai underground map
The idea of creating a London Underground style map for Shanghai's metro system has always been in my mind. After years of study and the help of TfL's official design guidelines, I completed this project in November 2025.

Speaking of the similarity between the two system, there is a unique detail, that both systems have shared tracks on their ring lines. In London, the Circle Line shares the tracks with the Hammersmith & City Line and the District Line, while in Shanghai, Line 4 shares the tracks with Line 3. This similarity makes up the design choice that only the shared tracks are drawn closely together on the map, while the rest of the lines are spaced further apart, keeping both the meaning and the style of those shared lines.
The another feature of the London Underground map are the dumb bells, representing interchange stations. However, if you overuse the dumb bells, the map will look cluttered and messy. Therefore, on most of the two-line interchanges, I chose to use simple circles instead of dumb bells, reserving the dumb bells for the busier interchanges with three or more lines. This also makes clear the related position of each station of a multi-line interchange.
The map comes with a Chinese version and a English version, and is up to date as of January 2026, covering all 19 lines and 408 unique stations of the Shanghai Metro. Feel free to browse and share!
